Jul. 7th, 2008 06:52 pmIn April of this year, a jury convicted Oakland resident Hans Reiser of the murder of his wife, Nina Reiser, after a six-month trial. Nina disappeared after dropping her two children off with her estranged husband for the weekend. Prosecution of Reiser was truly a daunting task for the Alameda County District Attorney -- a murder case with no body, no crime scene, no reliable eyewitness and virtually no physical evidence. Add to that an excellent defense attorney and a plausible defense (that Nina returned to Russia, where the couple met, after Hans discovered that she had embezzled from their company), and it's even more impressive that prosecutor Paul Hora got the conviction. The best evidence that the prosecution had was the testimony of Hans Reiser in his own defense. He came off as overwhelmingly arrogant, erratic and rude.
So why am I discussing this now, all these months later?
Today Hans Reiser led the police to his wife's body, buried off a deer trail in Redwood Regional Park.
