Some of you know her as Heather MacAllister. Others of you may know her only as Reva Lucien a/k/a Ms. Demeanor, the founder of Big Burlesque and the Fat-Bottom Revue, the incredibly sexy, talented, mesmerizing, radical, fiery and inimitably fat-bottomed Pied Piper of positive body image. I know her as friend, teacher, crush, role model -- and hero. I've never known anyone like her. Although our worlds have intersected only occasionally and quite briefly, my life unquestionably has been changed through knowing her.

You may or may not know that Heather has been fighting Stage 4 ovarian cancer for over three years now. And I mean fighting. Heather's fierceness, her bravery, and her sheer determination to struggle through pain and hell and hospitals and medical bureaucracy and to hang on by her fingernails to the best parts of life have been awe-inspiring to her many friends and loved ones.

Her long fight will be ending soon, probably today. Thank Goddess for Oregon's "aid in dying" legislation. She will die as she lived: with courage, with dignity and at choice.

Please hold a place for my friend Heather in your hearts today and wish her safe passage to the other side. Light a candle, if it means something to you. Or better yet: shed your baggy sweater, fat girl. Put on something clingy. And a feather boa, some elbow-length gloves, leopard-print shoes. Look at yourself in the mirror and say "Damn, I'm hot". And then go strut it outside. Pay tribute to a warrior spirit by carrying that spirit to the world.
